About the owner
I am Michelle Deal, a woman of God, a wife, a mother, a self-taught cake artist and entrepreneur. I've been blessed with a gift of baking the most delicious, moist, light and fluffy cakes in town! I have been baking cakes since I was 10 years old.
However, it wasn't until 2008 that I found my new passion for cake decorating. After observing a lady decorate one single cake in a Walmart bakery, I was determined to bake and decorate my future nephew's baby shower cake that following weekend. It was a success.
With support from my mother, family and friends, I started making sheet cakes for loved ones. Eventually, through word of mouth, I began making cakes for others as well!
On December 29th, 2013 I lost my mother to uterine cancer, just 3 weeks after diagnosis. My mother, Carmelita "Carmie" Sams, had a passion for bicycles. Everything from riding a bike for miles, to building, repairing and teaching the youth and women everything there is to know about a bike. She did what she loved.
After my mom passed, I decided to focus on what I loved most, God, family, and baking and decorating cakes. I taught myself how to work with fondant and I fell in love with it instantly. From there, my talent improved, and I started making cakes that I've never dreamt of making. I jumped out on faith and quit my job of 11 years as an Assistant Store Manager at Walmart, and I started my own business.
My mom was my inspiration to do what I love. Is it was only right to dedicate by business to my angel. "CarmieCakes"
